A Message from the Friends President on Proposed Library Budget Cuts

Dear Friend of MPL, Monterey Public Library faces an unprecedented emergency. The City of Monterey projects a $31 million revenue loss in the current and upcoming fiscal years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The City Council has the difficult task of closing this gap. City Council considers staff layoffs at April 21 meeting

As you may have heard, the City of Monterey faces devastating revenue losses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the April 21 meeting, the City Council will consider a proposal to reduce 106 city positions, 83 of which are currently filled. 16 library positions are included. Giant Used Book Sale – CANCELED

The Library and Bookmobile will be closed Saturday, March 14 through Tuesday, March 31 in an effort to take proactive measures against the spread of COVID-19. All programs are canceled.
